Why Choose the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)?

  • Permanent Residency: This visa grants permanent residency, allowing you to live and work in Australia indefinitely.
  • Work Rights: Full work rights are provided with this visa, with no restrictions on the employer or occupation once the visa is granted.
  • Family Benefits: You can include eligible family members in your application. They can also live, work, and study in Australia.
  • Pathway to Citizenship: After obtaining permanent residency, you may be eligible to apply for Australian citizenship.
  • Access to Social Services: As a permanent resident, you can access Australia’s healthcare system, Medicare, and other social services.

Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) Visa Streams

The Subclass 186 visa offers three different streams depending on your individual circumstances:

  1. Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream
This stream is for skilled workers who have already been working in Australia on a Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482) for at least 3 years with their employer. Your employer must nominate you for permanent residency under the TRT stream.
  2. Direct Entry (DE) Stream
This stream is for workers who are either outside Australia or have not worked in Australia for three years on a 482 visa. You must be nominated by an approved Australian employer and your occupation must be on the relevant skilled occupation list. A skills assessment is required unless exempt.
  3. Labour Agreement Stream
This stream is for workers who are sponsored by an employer through a Labour Agreement. This is typically used for industries with shortages that are unable to be filled by local workers and allows employers to sponsor workers in specific occupations.
